Chomphet district is directly across the Mekong River from Luang Prabang town and still retains its Lao village-atmosphere. This village is eager to welcome visitors but unfortunately has seen limited benefits from tourism. Several interesting day trips have been developed there, such as visiting the traditional pottery village of Ban Chan, walking and bike riding from Xieng mene, and visiting some of the old temples with beautiful views of Luang Prabang Town. Maps, bikes, and information can be obtained in Xieng mene village at a small information office just after disembarking the boat.
Support has also been given to further develop the 2 day/1 night trek that include an overnight stay in a Hmong mountain-top village. This trek stops in Lao and khmu villages, has great views of the Mekong River and Luang Prabangand Challenging climbs on forested trails
